NEARBY ACTIVITIES

Monachil is near to the Sierra Nevada ski resort (Pradollano). It is 35 minutes drive round the mountain to the ski lift.

Skiing for Children
If you have children between 4 months and 8 years, this is a fantastic resort for them. There is the new Dream Land, which I describe as minature disneyland in the snow. You can place your children here from 10-4 or for 1/2 days. They can play on skis, tobaggans, play in the snow, or play in side with dressed up characters. We do not know what it is like, but our children are going here in March 2006. Dream Land is just outside the gondola, so you will need to buy a lift pass and hire skis and boots for your children. It is great value for money, and costs around the same price as putting your child in nursery for the week in the UK.

It is 5 miles from all the city attractions in Granada.

There are various walking routes, biking routes and outdoor activities.

There is a new theme park opened with a 26 lane ten pin bowling alley, and games area, as well as American, Mexican, Turkish, Spanish, Pizza and Italian Restaurants. This is just 10 minutes drive from the apartment.

Skiing

Our apartment is nestled amoungst the mountains of the typical Spanish village of Monachil. You are unlikely to find another English family here! Skiing is just 35 minutes drive to the ski lift at Pradollano, and the centre of Granada is just 5 miles away on the bus route (bus stop is 2 minutes walk).

Weather you want to enjoy the hustle and bustle of Granada, visit the many historic monuments, sample the many tapas bars and fiestas, or ski during the day, and then retire to something a little more tranquil, our apartment is perfectly located.

There is a fantastic supermarket 15/20 minutes walk, selling a wealth of fresh bread, pastries, fish, meat and a huge selection of wines. There is also banks, restuarants and various shops all within 10 minutes walk.

However, there are more tapas bars and restaurants than you can imagine just a short taxi drive or bus ride away in the centre of Granada. If you want to avoid the hustle and bustle, Monachil is a very scenic village for walking in the evening.

Our apartment is a very typical Spanish apartment. It has traditional terrocota tiles, high ceilings, and a rear communal courtyard. It is very tastefully furnished, sleeping 6 persons and includes all linen, towels, and even the hair dryer!

Parking is on the road outside or one of the neighbouring streets. There is no allocated parking, but we have never had any problems finding a space.

ABOUT SIERRA NEVADA SKIING

Pradollano (the name of the ski village) is a superb resort with facilities for all of the family. There are limited runs for the advanced skier, but plenty for beginners, children and intermediates. There is even a moving carpet, especially good for small children. There is a host of good value restaurants.

There are numerous shops where you can hire ski gear, as well as book pirvate lessons, as well as join ski school. There is also a children's creche where you can place children 6 months to 5 years.

Most people drive to the resort, where there is two large car parks. The first is underground the mountains, so you take the lift up to the middle of the resort from here. This is approx 15 euros per day.

There is a further large car park, which is about 10 minutes walk from the resort and is approx 5 euros to park all day.

There is a bus that goes to the resort from the main bus station in Granada.

Highest ski stations is 3300m
87km of ski runs
24 ski lifts (including 2 gondolas and 16 chair lifts
Over 400 snow cannons
Ice Rink

Our clients come from all over the world, and particuarly it has been popular with Amercian families.

Family of 6 - From France April 2007

Hello, We came back from Granada, everybody enjoyed the trip. The apartment was very nice, Maria is a wonderful person. Thank you again... Pierre-Yves Lozachmeur

April 2007
Dear Linda, I don't know where to begin! We had such an amazing time in Spain - and your apartment was at the the heart of it. It was perfect for our family. Your directions were perfect. Due to weather and flight cancellations we finally arrived in Monachil at 1 a.m. the first day! Driving from Malaga in the night - more than a little exhausted- we did not get lost at all. The pictures - especially of the new construction - really helped. The town of Monachil was delightful and a wonderful way to get off the beaten tourist track and actually interact with locals in a more natural way. The town was a perfect size for exploring on foot and the proximity of the shops made grocery shopping a snap. The bakery was awesome - we made several trips there. Getting in and out of Granada was effortless. The 181 bus was a easy and cabs were inexpensive and plentiful. We did have a rental car that required some creativity for parking - but we only used for trips to Sevilla and Malaga and getting to and from the airport. The apartment is a perfect base for exploring southern Spain. We took an overnight trip to Sevilla and then went on a day trip via ferry to Morocco. It was a lot to do in less than 48 hours. When we returned that night to the apartment, my husband sat down on the sofa and said "It's good to be home." That is exactly how it felt. The codes for the main door and the safe worked well. We never took the keys out with us - just left them in the box so we did not need to worry about losing them. We never did meet Maria. We hope the apartment was left in an agreeable condition. We would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Granada. We will keep you in mind for future trips. Regards, Arlene Perkkio - US

Hi Linda and Frenchs all, (September 2005 from US)

Randy and I arrived home Sunday evening and I mailed your keys yesterday (Monday).
Will you please let me know when you receive them?

The apartment was lovely, a wonderful place from which to enjoy Granada and its
environs! We also enjoyed wandering around Monachil. We started a sangria pot
and just kept it going the whole week. This made cooking in your very well equipped
kitchen even more enjoyable. And, of course, added more romance to the beautiful
sunsets over Granada.

The following are our comments, in hopes that they will be useful to you.

Inside the Apartment:
* Very clean upon arrival
* Loved the Ikea furnishings. Did you take the photos?
* The master bed is about as cozy and comfy as a bed can get.
* Instructions for appliances in oven drawer were VERY useful!!! You may want to
place them in an even more prominent place - especially for folks from USA, who are not at all used to the way European appliances work.

CLIENT TESTOMONIAL 2...

Your apartment was perfect accommodation for a family of 5 people who very much enjoyed their skiing holiday. The fittings and furnishings are very tasteful and we were very impressed by your attention to detail and high level of personal service. Everything was truly outstanding. The DVD player provided us with great entertainment and we were very comfortable.

Regards/Andrew
PS Hope to make a reservation for next year as we enjoyed ourselves so much

Skiing..
The best way to get to the resort is to drive. The roads are very good. There is one large underground car park which costs 15 euros per day to park (underneath the slopes), the other car park, is a short walk and is 2.50 euros a day to park (prices as of Dec 05). We drove here on 8 Dec 2005, and it took us 30 minutes door-to-door on the way up, and 34 minutes on the back. Obviously in peak times and period, there will be more traffic and it may take longer.

The beautiful beaches of the "Costa Tropical" are just 40 minutes away.
