Gavalohori village
Our village of Gavalohori has many places to explore, including a small folk museum and archaeological sites. Many of the buildings date back to the early 1900's, combining both traditional Venetian and Cretan architechtural influences. Shops and our excellent local taverna are a few minutes walk from the houses.
The seaside is five minutes away at Almirida where there are tavernas, watersports and a pretty sandy beach. A few kilometres further along the coast is Kalives - a seaside village which offers a further choice of shops and restaurants.
A car is not essential but is advised to get the most out of your holiday.
Western Crete
Crete is the largest of the Greek islands and the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean. It is 256km long and between 15km and 70km wide. The inland terrain is mountainous with high fertile plateaux split by spectacular gorges, ideal for walking and photography. Along the north coast, sandy beaches stretch virtually the length of the island. Other local activities include cycling, birdwatching, horseriding and painting. The climate is Mediterranean, being mostly warm and sunny between May & October. |
