The surrounding countryside is lovely. There are mountains to the North and for the more active these offer fantastic walking or cycling (mountain bikes) days out. The Mar Menor, Europes largest sea water lagoon, is seperated from the Mediterranean Sea by a strip of land known as the La Manga strip. This lagoon is a safe haven for children, non swimmers etc, because of its wave free shallowness.
For the golfer there are a host of high quality courses nearby, including the La Manga Club.
Water sports, including sailing and diving are available.
