This is an ancient route from Jerez to Ronda for shepherds and livestock, although nowadays only parts of it remain. This section is still in use for goats and sheep but is also a public footpath for walkers, naturalists and archaeologists. You can walk from here to Ronda and across to Acinipo Roman ruins.
Set amidst mountain oaks (a protected species) and on the side of a river canyon it is situated approx 12kms from Ronda off the Seville Road and although in Malaga Province it is located close to the Cadiz border surrounded by Natural parkland, including the famous Grazelema, which accords this property the most spectacular views of the peaks.
A self contained garden flat attached to this large house just 15 mins from Ronda, comprising 4 private split level terraces, ranging from the private entrance off the Camino with splendid mountain views, down a few steps onto the 2nd terrace with entrance to the accommodation. Both top terraces have shade and sun all day and are equipped for relaxing and al fresco dining whilst watching trhe eagles and vultures soaring just above you.
The BBQ (3rd) and pool/sun terrace (4th) are accessed down a sweeping stone stairway. Surrounded by magnificent ancient acacia and pine trees as well as an abundance of wild and cultivated flora, the feeling is one of being in a woodland.
The interior comprises an open plan living/sleeping area with double bed, two armchairs and a fixed foldaway table for indoor dining. The fitted cupboard/wardrobe with original pine doors is situated in a recess that was the entrance into the courtyard from the camino. The newly fitted kitchen and bathroom are accessed through an archway off the main living area. All windows and doors are fitted with rustic wooden shutters and insect screens, the main double doors are original wood and stud. The spanish style wood and wrought iron furnishings were hand made in the Philippines and shipped here by the current owner.
It can get chilly in the mornings and evenings as we are situated approx 3000ft above sea level. In the winter it can snow as this area is surrounded by the Sierra Nieves Bisophere, and the Serrania de Ronda mountain ranges with
the highest peaks of the Grazelema reaching another 1000ft above that. From the Camino, Ronda can be seen majestically perched on the Tajo or gorge. At anytime of the day it is a breathtaking sight and for the adventurous, try a night excursion to see the lights shimmering in the distance.
There is a working Cortijo near the property and there is an abundance of farm animals as well as birds, boar, deer, foxes, toads and owls. | | | | | | | |
